These terms are the compact between you and Hugin. Plain English, no small print buried elsewhere — what's here is what binds us.
Who we are
Hugin is operated by João Diniz, an individual based in Portugal. Reach us at hello@hugin.ink for general questions, or privacy@hugin.ink for data and privacy matters. See also our Privacy Policy.
The service
Hugin transcribes audio you provide — typically a YouTube URL or an audio file — into searchable text, with chapters, summaries, and recall cards drawn from each transcript. You give us audio or a link; we return a transcript and the marginalia.
Your account
- You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.
- You're responsible for keeping your password and any access tokens private.
- One account per person. Don't share accounts.
- You can delete your account at any time from Account → Danger zone. Deletion is permanent.
What you can upload
You may transcribe audio you own, audio that is lawfully available to you, or audio in the public domain. You may not use Hugin to transcribe:
- Audio you obtained illegally, or audio whose rights-holder forbids transcription.
- Audio meant to harm, harass, defame, or impersonate another person.
- Audio containing material that is illegal where you live or where Hugin operates.
- Audio at a volume or frequency designed to abuse our infrastructure.
When you transcribe a YouTube video, YouTube's own terms still govern your relationship with YouTube — Hugin is not a substitute for those terms.
Your content stays yours
You retain full ownership of the audio you upload and the transcripts Hugin produces from it. We do not use your audio or your transcripts to train models — ours or anyone else's. We don't share them, sell them, or quietly distribute them to anyone you haven't named.
You grant Hugin a narrow, non-exclusive licence to process your content for the sole purpose of providing the service: storing it, transcribing it, indexing it for your search, and rendering it back to you. That licence ends when you delete the content or the account.
Acceptable use
Don't try to:
- Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of our systems.
- Circumvent the quota limits of your tier.
- Send automated traffic except through our public APIs.
- Use Hugin to send unsolicited messages, host malware, or run a competing transcription service on top of ours.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules. We try to tell you first; in serious cases we act first and explain after.
Billing & Pro
Hugin Free is free. Hugin Pro is €7 per month (or the equivalent shown at checkout), billed by Stripe. By subscribing you also agree to Stripe's terms.
- Renewal. Pro renews monthly until you cancel.
- Cancellation. You can cancel at any time from Account → Subscription or via the Stripe portal. Cancellation stops future charges; the current period is not refunded.
- Price changes. If we change the price, we'll tell you at least 30 days in advance, and the change takes effect on your next renewal.
- Failed payments. If a renewal payment fails, we'll try again a few times. If it keeps failing, your account drops to Free until you fix the card.
- Quota. Free gets 5 hours of transcription per month; Pro gets 50 hours. Unused hours don't roll over. If you exceed your quota, ingestion pauses until the next month or until you upgrade.
Availability
Hugin is a small operation. We aim for high uptime but we don't promise a specific SLA on Free or Pro. Planned maintenance is announced in advance when we can; emergency maintenance is not.
If we ever discontinue the service or a major feature, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice and a way to export your library before the lights go out.
Warranty & liability
Hugin is provided "as is." Transcripts are produced by automated speech-to-text and may contain errors, especially with poor audio, multiple speakers, jargon, or non-target languages. Don't rely on Hugin transcripts for legal, medical, or financial decisions without independent verification.
To the extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to this service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.
Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under mandatory consumer-protection law that cannot be limited by contract.
Ending the relationship
You can leave at any time — delete your account, take your library with you. We may end your access if you materially break these terms, or if the law requires us to. If we end your access, we'll tell you why, unless telling you would be unlawful.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms when the service changes, when the law changes, or when we get something wrong and need to fix it. We'll surface material changes by email or by a banner before they take effect. If you keep using Hugin after a change, you accept the updated terms. If you don't, delete your account.
Law & jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the laws of Portugal. Disputes are resolved by the competent courts of Portugal, subject to any mandatory consumer-protection rules that grant you the right to sue or be sued in your country of residence.
